You can have the most elaborate back yard in your entire community, but if it isn’t functional you have created it all in vain. Functionality is an important element in the success of a backyard garden, so you have to think about children, pets and family before you plant anything. You create a small portion of the yard especially for you, in which you can plant whatever you want. It’s your own special place. The rest of the family have the remainder of the garden to relax or play in.
You will find it more satisfying this way, when the whole family is happy with the garden and they might even bring their personal ideas for it.
